gem of the day #1

Tanzanite

Was discovered at the Mererani mines of Tanzania in 1967.
In nature it occurs in quite a few colours, but most are heat treated to attain a beautiful violet blue colour, which is the colour that attracted interest in this gem when it was discovered. Although it is of adequate hardness, it is however somewhat fragile and ultra- sonic cleaning should be avoided!
Tanzanite is strongly dichroic, meaning it shows red-violet and deep blue depending on the direction viewed. It has been marketed quite fiercely; cheaper – pale colours are often sold on various TV shop channels. Conversely, supplies of actual good quality material are dwindling.

(new theme) my friend's jewellery box #1

I have always been jealous of this necklace.
Funny thing, it was a gift from my mama and myself..

We have a new theme here at GD!
I like to think of myself as a social person. heh.. A person with friends..
And since I dont want the blog to focus around my persona, what better way to move focus from myself than exploiting my friends? :)
...
First up is the lovely E.

Another gift from my mama and I..
(More to come from this designer in september!)
Made by 14year old me as a birthday present (?)
Gift from me and my mama..
Dont remember the designer.
Sad. Great design.
 Silver and gold.
YSL ring a pretty gift from the BF...

disc earrings

For some years one of my cousins worked for my father, during his time in my fathers studio he designed a few pieces, amongst them these earrings. I wore them everyday almost for a year... So simple yet beautiful. To me this design is not very greek..it has more of a nordic  touch.. Tune in tomorrow, to hear more about the difference between nordic and mediterranean designs..

My friend L wears this ring often...
I adore it for its gothic flirtation.

1965 bulgari

At times I wonder if you  get my sarcasm, I think it is obvious when I am sarcastic but in case you missed it then you know now.. Though about the Bulgari necklace in the previous post I was a 100 percent sincere, its gonna happen! Nevermind that now lets see some facts about this pretty thing! Its made of yellow gold with diamonds, turquoises, amethysts and emeralds. There are also a pair of matching earrings and the whole set once belonged to Lyn Revson (whos jewellery collection was legendaaary) , wife of Charles Revson who founded Revlon... Imagien that

necklaces and pendants, list of the week

I realized that there are so many things I want, but very little things I would die  for (material things that is, not that I wouldn't die for a cause or somethin'.. I just don't have one right now..)  But these things I have listed now are things that my material ego really crave and dies a little every time it realizes the impossibility of some of these things.. And by that I don't mean the Bulgari necklace, believe it or not

I want to have worn this Bulgari necklace at least once before I die. Every second counts(!) haha

I want this necklace in more colours...

I really really want the opportunity to finish this necklace, using the
same technique as the previous necklace... It's a must before fall...

-.-

I want to learn how to carve pendants like these, and I want to own some.. ahhh greed *sigh*..

look what i found!

Yes that is a brooch though you'd probably never guess that. Made it some years ago when I was bored, must have been thirtteen and my father had kicked me out of the workshop for no apparent reason other than that I was persisten in learning to handle some machine which he thought inappropriate. So I ended up outside with some silver wire,  a cheap brooch platform  and some crystals my mum had bought in Prague for me. Remebering my irritation and anger at the time I also recollect my suprise when I actually managed to produce  something wearable...okay that is debatable, but you know what I mean...
